About our Nurseries

What we have to offer

At Little Stars we offer a variety of different, affordable sessions to suit every parent/carers situation. Our curriculum is based around the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). The EYFS has 7 areas of learning. They are divided into three prime areas and 4 specific areas of learning. It also outlines 3 characteristics of effective learning.
Whilst your child attends Little Stars, they will gain varied knowledge within all of these areas to enable their development to reach its full potential.
Follow this link to gather further information about the Early Year Foundation Stage (EYFS)
https://www.early-education.org.uk/sites/default/files/Development%20Matters%20in%20the%20Early%20Years%20Foundation%20Stage%20-%20FINAL.pdf
We use this as a tool, along with the children’s individual ideas and needs to impact our sessions every day. This also enables the ‘Key Person’ to plan for your child’s individual needs and development. We believe every child is unique and that their opinions, views and interests should be listened to, explored and supported. Every child is recognised and treated as an individual, with a framework of the highest ethical standards and equal opportunities.

We have weekly focus children. Our planning ideas come straight from the children’s ideas and from our Parents/ Carers input. Our planning ensures we meet all the 7 areas of learning and 3 characteristics of learning within the EYFS. Varied resources and activities are on offer indoor and outdoor for the children to freely explore and enhance their development.

A safe place for your child

All children need to feel a sense of security and belonging when they are away from their parent or carer. This is key to the philosophy of our nursery. All our staff aim to ensure that every child is happy, relaxed and feels safe. We achieve this by assigning every child with their own ‘Keyperson’. The role of a ‘Keyperson’ is to ensure that every child’s care and development is tailored to meet their individual needs. They are also a support network between the setting and our families that attend our setting. We also instil a strong sense of community from all our staffing team to ensure all our children feel comfortable with all our staffing team.

This will enable your child to become familiar with the setting, offers a settled relationship with your child and offers an opportunity to work closely with the parent/carers and build a relationship with each child and their family. The Keyperson also takes observations daily and creates a record of your child’s development and progress. They will produce summative assessments on each child every term, so their progress and development can be monitored and any achievements can be highlighted.

The children are encouraged to be independent and confident. We ensure our room layout is accessible and inviting. This allows the children to explore and choose their own activities and preferences whenever they wish to.

The children are encouraged to take part in the activities that are on offer and develop their own independence skills. We also encourage the children to use our ‘choosing folder’ and request their own preferences for what they would like on offer within each session. We also offer lots of trolleys that have self-choosing draws on them. This allows all children to select equipment when they would like to and not have to ask for it. This allows all of the children to develop their confidence in selecting their own equipment and materials.

Meal and snack times

Whilst your child attends their sessions at our nursery we offer all meals and snacks including breakfast, morning snack, lunch,  afternoon snack and high tea. Depending on what session they attend, will determine what snacks and meals  they will have.

All of the snacks and meals we provide are healthy and balanced. We have recently achieved our ‘Smile Award’ from Milton Keynes Council. All our snack menus are designed with the recommendations of the smile award.

We feel this promotes a healthy ethos to the children and encourages them to have a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

Working with parents / carers

Within are Little Stars Nursery we feel it is very important to have a strong relationship with our parents/carers. We achieve this by encouraging all parents/carers to laisse with their child’s ‘Key Person’ as much as possible. We also produce regular reports and assessments and a copy is sent through our online journal Tapestry. This is followed by a brief explanation from your child's key Person. This enables all parents/carers to keep up to date with their child’s progress and development at all times. We also encourage parents/carers to attend regular parent/carer evening meetings to share their opinions and feedback. We also encourage parents/carer to give input for their child's focus week, add any process the children have achieved whilst at home to their journals and to answer our question of the month through our online system Tapestry. We feel parents/carers are valued contributors to their child’s education and development and we therefore value their input and opinion. The ‘Key Person’ also uploads a daily snapshot of every child's daily activities and learning so all parents/carers can keep up to date with what their child has achieved within their time at nursery.

Qualifications / training / ratios /
our staff

Our setting is fully registered with Ofsted and we ensure our setting follows all the guidelines they set within the statutory framework. It is very important to us that we ensure all our staff can develop a rapport with every child and can care for them in the highest possible standards. It is also just as important to us as a nursery that all our staff are able to deliver the EYFS framework to all of the children that attend Little Stars. Therefore, all staff are recruited with particular care and attention and are fully trained to either a NVQ 2 or NVQ 3 status. We operate with fully qualified staff that are vetted using DBS (Disclosure and barring services). We also carry out an in-depth interview process and obtain references from a variety of sources for each member of staff. Following Safer recruitment procedures.

Our staff to child ratios run in line with the set Government requirements. They specify:
